Glasgow has a vibrant vegan community with events popping up almost every week.
So why does Govan need it's own event?
I grew up in Govan in the 80s. It is steeped in tradition and recent years have seen Govan transformed from a working class area into a diverse, muticultural hub of people keen to bring positive change to its residents.
"People in Govan have poorer life outcomes than the city average. The average number of
years that local men are likely to spend in good health is 52, compared to the Glasgow
average of 56. For local women Healthy Life Expectancy is 53 years, compared to 58
across the city.
Over a third of local people (36%) have one or more long term health condition, which is
higher than Glasgow as a whole (31%). Nearly one in six people (16%) in Govan feel their
day-to-day activities are limited a lot by a health condition, compared with 13% across
Glasgow. 10% of local people describe their health as bad or very bad, compared to 9%
citywide."
Whilst veganism isn't a dietary choice, there's a clear intersection between living a cruelty free lifestyle and improving health & wellbeing.
Go Vegan Govan will encourage local residents to make positive changes through workshops, cooking demos, talks and food stalls.
The event will be free to attend so we need your help to cover the cost of venue hire and printing costs.

The venue is situated on the ground floor with disabled access and toilets. There's also a large stage area that can be used for entertainment and talks.
Govan has great transport links and can be accessed via Subway, bus or in the summer months by ferry from Glasgow's west end.
