On March 24, 2007, we wrote to this person who called herself Khaki:

First of all, is that really your name? we love it...
Secondly, we can't help but notice that your contributions to YL are consistently interesting, informative and honest... the three watchwords of what we want Yucatan Living to be for it's readers.
We are writing to ask if you might consider becoming a guest contributor to our pages? We're sure you have something interesting to tell us all....

The rest is sort of history.... Khaki has been writing our weekly Yucatan News since then. It's been almost TEN years. Her dedication to doing a good job and her love of the Yucatan are unmatched, and we have always appreciated her contribution.
Now it turns out, Khaki is sick. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has been in and out of the hospital for the past few months. Khaki has never had a lot of money, and we are worried that this sickness is putting a huge strain on her. She would never THINK of asking for money, so we are asking on her behalf.
