Give Art the Homegoing He Deserves

Our friend Art McGee was found dead in his apartment on Tuesday July 10th. A dedicated online community used the internet to investigate and found his next of kin in days.  Now, his friends and family want to give Art the homegoing he deserves, and we need your help to do it. Between funeral home costs, the cost of a memorial service, and any costs associated with cleaning and removing a lifetime's worth of items from Art's apartment, we anticipate needing $10K.

I am prepared to pay the initial $3,000 to pick up his body, perform the procedure of cremation or burial, and any other initial costs -- but my wife is battling advanced cancer, and I can't do this alone. Please, we ask Art's community to assist as we plan and prepare for a memorial service in August 2018. Funds not used for the memorial service and funeral home will go to his family to assist with legal or cleaning services associated with his death.

Art was a brilliant man with a huge online community. As an intersectional thinker, Art was a gift to the Black Left, often debating about Afro-Futurism and Afro-Pessimism. He was also a gift to the movement for media justice, and to everyone who came in contact with him through political dialogue and debate. His death is a loss to us all. 

Each of us deserves to be welcomed into the world, and held as we leave it. Let's hold Art.
