Hi. I'm Sofia, 12 years old, and I wrote my first album, GOLDEN GATE, to raise funds for GirlsRock - a music education program for girls 6 -16 years old.
Please donate to my page. 100% of all funds raised will be donated to GirlsRock Scholarships. All donations will receive a digital version of my album.
When I was born my vocal chords were paralyzed and doctors said I would never speak. Never say never. I started singing at 3 years old and haven't stopped since. When I was 8, I joined GIRLS ROCK Santa Barbara - a music program that puts girls in bands after-school and provides music instruction. We work together to write orginal songs, learn instruments, market our band, and perform on-stage. It is said that 70% of girls don't feel good enough - struggling with issues like looks, fitting in, performance in school, boys and more.
GIRLS ROCK is working to change that statistic- providing a space where girls of all backgrounds can express themselves and build self confidence.
Golden Gate is my first album (EP) and 100% of all funds raised will go to the GIRLS ROCK music education programs. The songs I wrote are all based on happenings in my life:
1. HOLLOW (about a bully - song is in video above)
2. SAY I DO (for Tess & Tony)
3. MOM SONG (about my mom)
4. RULE THE WORLD (about feminism and equality)
GIRLS ROCK programs are based all over the world, but the program in Santa Barbara is the biggest because no girl is left behind due to funding. Over 50% of girls are on scholarship.
Please contirbute and you will receive a copy of the album. No amount is too small. :)
