Gigi Gorgeous Transyouth Program

Last week my girlfriend Nats and I visited the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Center for Transyouth Health and Development. To say they're changing lives is an understatement! Dr. Olson-Kennedy and her team are leading the charge (not just in LA but around the world) in physical and mental health and development for transyouth (Ages 3+).  They are currently caring for over 1000 patients but are limited in budget, research and resources...

On Sunday, October 29th, I'm hosting “CarnEvil for Good”  Halloween bash at Bootsy Bellows in West Hollywood. 100% of the evening’s proceeds will support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Center for Transyouth Health & Development. Now is the time to invest in lifesaving care and clinical research so that every child has the opportunity to embrace and express his or her authentic self.

If you can't make it to the event, you can still help.. Please donate to help The Center for Transyouth Health & Development change lives!

More Info:
The Center for Transyouth Health & Development at CHLA has been dedicated to supporting and advocating for transgender and gender non-conforming youth and their families through the complex gender journey for more than 20 years.  The program provides hormonal intervention, mental health, health education, HIV prevention, family support, peer support and advocacy services.

Each donation you make will help The Center expand its care team to support:

• Care for more transgender youth who require highly specialized treatment

• Research into the best approaches to alleviate gender dysphoria and care for transgender youth

• Lead the nation in the nuanced care necessary for these vulnerable youth in this expanding field

• Educate school administrators, teachers and peers

• Filing document changes for patients who want to change their names or gender on their driver’s licenses, state identification or social security cards

• Fielding denials for coverage from insurance companies, many of which refuse coverage for hormone-blockers or other medical treatment necessary to bring a child’s body into alignment with his or her internal gender identity

The number of patients seeking care at the Transgender Center has grown by 1,000 percent over the last five years—and demand continues to skyrocket. Currently, the Center cares for more than 900 transgender youth and has 150 more on the waiting list.  With only one full-time and two part-time medical practitioners to care for these youth. Their expertise is critical to improving the lives of transgender youth; however, current staffing levels are not sufficient to meet the increasing demand for care. Your donation can help change that.

Although visibility for the transgender community is on the rise, many transgender youth still face staggeringly difficult challenges. Families who seek support for their children are often unable to find appropriate or timely care because experienced providers are rare, and few institutions have a robust care team in a single facility. Personalized care plans are essential. A gender nonconforming child who is 4 years old has vastly different needs than a “tween” about to go through puberty or a young adult entering the workforce for the first time and learning to navigate complex relationships.

After visiting the The Center I saw how they  support every patient based on his or her specific needs, whether it’s providing consultations and referrals for families with gender nonconforming children, prescribing and monitoring puberty blockers for transgender youth, or administering cross-sex hormones to bring adolescents’ bodies into alignment with their internal gender.

At school and in their own homes, many transgender youth are shamed and ostracized. This lack of support leads to mental health conditions, which can worsen over time. Some children and adolescents are even forced out of their families, ending up in foster care, in group homes and too often, homeless. Together, we can help solve this crisis. With proper treatment and support, transgender youth blossom and thrive. It is an exciting time to be involved in this movement and play a leading role in supporting the care of transgender youth. An investment in the Center is truly an investment in brighter futures. Together, we can improve and save lives—and help create a more accepting and inclusive community that will benefit generations to come.
