Baby Presley and mother Megan have been at the London Children's Hospital for the past 6 weeks. Doctors are still puzzled by Presley's complications and are waiting for genetic testing results with the hope it will offer insight to treating Presley.
Presley was first admitted to hospital after not gaining weight during her first two months. She is on a continous feeds and specialized formula to try and provide her enough calories...She is now 3 months old and weighs approx. 8lbs 4oz.
Doctors also cannot understand why Presley is using up so much sodium. Her sodium levels have dropped drastically a couple of times which has caused seizure activity which has meant a couple of visits to the Critical Care Unit.
She has a tube that bypasses the stomach in order to decrease the amount of effort it takes her to eat. In addition she is on several medications to deal with her severe reflux or sandifer's syndrome. Even with the medications and bypassing her stomach she continues to struggle. As you can imagine, when she is refluxing she is in great discomfort and can't get much rest. Megan often has to suction the acid that Presley brings up because there is just so much of it, and to decrease the chance of aspiration.
