Get Sam the Dog Walking Again
Hi, we're the Vileniskis family and we're trying to raise money to continue physical therapy for our dog Sam!
Sam is a 15 year old mixed breed dog- a german shepherd/lab mix, we think. At around midnight between February 1st and 2nd he suffered a stroke accompanied by seizures, and since then he's been hospitalized (initially at Blue Pearl in Manhattan, and then at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview). He is in a stable condition and has been undergoing physical therapy at LIVS for about 2 months.
Sam has been working very hard, going from being laterally recumbent and unable to move to pushing himself around the hospital in a quad cart during physical therapy sessions. He is ready to be discharged and continue outpatient therapy at the same facility, but our savings are running out and we won't have enough money to complete his physical therapy and have him up on his feet and functioning as a happy dog should. Your donations will be used for a few things:
1) to pay the absolutely lovely physical therapists/staff at LIVS for the therapy they are providing Sam
2) to pay for any equipment Sam may need (a harness to help us lift this large dog, possibly a quad cart of his very own if he does not gain the ability to walk unassisted again)
3) medicine (to prevent future stroke, to manage epilepsy, to ease arthritis pain) and food (Sam is supposed to eat a prescription diet so this can get pretty expensive!)
4)gas money to transport him back and forth from Queens to Plainview.
We really need help as soon as possible; our money is nearly gone and as I'm sure you all know, vet bills are expensive. We are all unemployed and while those of us in better health have been looking for work, this search has not been fruitful so far and we do not expect that to change any time soon. Under normal circumstances we get by, but right now things are hard.
We are so thankful to the Vets, techs, Physical Therapists, and everyone else who has helped Sam so far, and now we ask for your help. Whether your donation is big or small, we are grateful for any amount you choose to give us, and we know Sam would be too.
