Help Get Rosie Back On Her Feet
Hi, I'm Rosie! I'm a trans girl currently working toward completing the final terms
of school necessary to complete my associate’s degree.
Earlier this year, I took the large step forward of changing my legal name. And
while this was a positive and necessary step to take, its repercussions have
created some hurdles I’m now working to overcome.
As a result of the change, my FAFSA application was delayed by several
months. At the end of said delay, I was ultimately informed that the loans and
grants I was eligible to receive would only partially cover the term I had just
completed. As a result, I now owe $579.20 to the school to cover the shortfall
from my last term enrolled.
While this deficit would ordinarily not be an absolute catastrophe, it’s come at a
very rough time because I am currently between jobs. I’ve recently proceeded
through the application process with (what felt like) a promising job prospect. But
I believe that applying under my current name, while still explaining my
“previously known as” male name, provided what someone considered an acceptable
reason to bypass me for another candidate. This leaves me effectively
at square one in the job market, for the moment.
Although these setbacks are frustrating, I am determined to keep pressing
forward in securing both an important educational step, and stable employment. I
am only three (or fewer) terms away from graduation depending on how densely
I can structure my course load.
I'm asking for $1400 to apply toward tuition, and pay my rent for another month while
handling class enrollment and pressing onward in the job search. Of course
anything you can give helps me move forward in this goal, and I’m appreciative
that you’ve even taken the time to read through. Thank you!
