Get Marco Out of ICE Custody
Moments before he was detained, Marco and I had just finished our interview with USCIS for the spousal petition we had submitted back in December 2015. We were relieved that it was done and over with and had left the facility. A few blocks away from the immigration office, an undercover ICE squad signaled us to pull over. When the officials got out of their vehicle, we saw that they were ICE officials. They asked us for ID. Marco, being who he is, asked why we were pulled over and what this was about. They insisted that they see ID before they told us what was going on. As soon as Marco showed them his ID, they said he was being taken for being in the country "illegally". I explained to them that we had just finished the interview and that we were working on getting legal status and still they said they could take him. They were gone with Marco in a heartbeat. I spent last night crying and our family is devastated.
For those of you who know Marco, you know that he is an activist at heart. He cares for and fights for our communities, for those who are marginalized and fights so that our exisistence is recognized and respected. In the past few years he's been involved with Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha, political organizing with POC, NAVIGATE MN, Cosecha, Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee, Voices for Racial Justice and much more.
We need Marco out of hands of ICE and back home. We need him in our communities so that he can continue to do the great work that needs to be done. We need our friend and ally to be free, there is no reason for him to be detained.
Even if you don't know him, please find it within your heart to give what you can. And if you can't give anything, please send us all your love and support. Today, November 16, is his birthday and he is spending it alone in custody.
Thank you and I’ll keep you all posted!
Today at the hearing, the judge set bail at 6k. Thanks to you all, we were able to post bond for Marco to be released.
Just a few minutes ago, Marco walked out of the immigration building with a smile on his face!
Thank you thank you thank you!! To everyone who donated and to everyone who sent their love and support. And everyone who mobilized and showed their support at the hearing, whether in person or in spirit. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing and beautiful community. It is incredible. I don't have the words to say how grateful i am.
For now, Marco is safe and back home. We still have further court hearings to attend so please keep us in your hearts and prayers.
You are welcome to continue to donate if you can. Further donations will be used to pay for legal fees.
Paty (Marco's mom) and I just got out from seeing him. He's gotten a bit sick but they've given him Tylenol. He's been fed and clothed. He is doing the best he can given the circumstances. He wants to thank everyone for all the support!
Thank you again! Words cannot describe this feeling.

I"m not quite sure why you need the money. You are going through the process to get him legalized. As soon as the paperwork goes through, I would thing he would be released.
We are with you!
Phil, you don't know the story & judging is well I don't need to tell you. I also know there are so many illegals in this country, most looking for a better life, and maybe they don't have the funds or knowledge on how to properly enter the country, or they are afraid they'll be denied, yes it's is WRONG. I know many immigrants that have come to our country and went about it the legal way, they eventually became citizens, because they love our country and pledge allegiance. It's certainly unfair to make exceptions when the others did it legally and I understand your frustration. Beheading someone is outlandish and it's sound as though Marco is an outstanding citizen of the community, so hope you find some compassion in your heart.
I live in Massachusetts and we don't know one another. But when I saw your story on FB, I wanted to help because your son's name is the same as mine-Marco. But more than that, your family deserves the same right to be together that mine enjoys. I am so relieved for you, so happy. This Thanksgiving will be special for you and for us. Good Luck to Marco and to you.
