Get James Simon Home

Donation protected
On February 12, 2019 James Simon and 3 friends along with each of their Canine companions were traveling through southern Colorado in I-25. One of the dogs got inpatient at about the Butte bridge replacement project and caused James, the driver, to loose control and go over the edge where the bridge had previously been. The vehicle and all occupants fell 80’ to the creek bed below. 3 of the passengers were transported to the Hospital by ambulance and were eventually released and sent home. James was Air Lifted by helicopter to the hospital with severe injuries. He spent most of the month in Neurotrauma ICU at Parkview hospital. Amazingly last week he was moved to a general room and will be released today to find a way home to Plano Texas.
In the accident 1 dog died, 1 sustained severe injuries (broken legs), 1 was rescued at the sceen and sent to a veterans run and then a shelter and 1 was lost.
Here is where we got involved in the story:
about a week after the accident my wife Kathy, Art Perkins, and myself were traveling to Walsenburg when traffic stopped at the construction site. As we say in traffic we looked around and noticed something out in the prairie. After getting binoculars out we found that it was a dog laying there. We worked to get to the dog to check on him and found that he was very week but otherwise unharmed. He had a bandanna in withthe name Shilo. We immediately posted his pic on Facebook to see if anyone was missing a pet and found out about the accident a week earlier and that a dog was still missing. We called CSP and were instructed to take him to a veterinarian in Walsenburg which we did.
Later through Facebook posts my wife got in touch with one of the passengers in the accident and found out that she was the girlfriend of James, the driver. She had been released from the hospital and her father came from Texas to take her home.   She began communicating with my wife and that is when we found that James was still here in ICU. We began visiting him and learned that he had no family able to help him and no
money or possessions, everything was in his totaled truck in Walsenburg.   He was worried about his Baby Shilo, so my wife and I arranged to travel to San Luis to get him from the shelter he had been sent to.  We paid for all the fees, $250 to get Shilo back for James and brought him to the hospital to visit James.
James is being released from the hospital today and has nothing, we have gathered some clothes for him but not sure what size he needs since he lost over 40 lbs in the hospital. We have decided to drive him and Shilo to Plano, Texas tomorrow where he can finish his recovery. He still has open wounds and drain tubes in his abdomen but has reached the point where he has to recover at home.   It is going to take several hundred dollars just to try and salvage what he can from his truck and then sign over the title to the tow company.
His insurance had lapsed 3 days outside of the grace period when the accident occurred so he has no coverage.
This is a tough situation and certainly some poor decisions led up to these events but James miraculously is alive and wants to start over. He had a cracked Liver, his appendix and gallbladder were removed, he shattered his femur, amount other things. The doctors expected him to spend three months in the hospital if he lived, but they are amazed he has recovered so well so fast.
We are looking for help to cover some of his expenses to get home and get his dog back.  The only reason for starting the fund is that many have expressed a desire to help and I thought this might be the easiest way to allow them to help.
Thank you.
