I am seventeen years old, swimming at Clayesmore and Swim Bournemouth Swimming Clubs. I swim competitively in British and English Nationals as a S14 Para Swimmer, competing against other swimmers with Learning Disabilities.
In 2017 I was selected for the British Swimming Para Academy alongside the Swim England Programme. Swim England also invited me on to the Sporting Excellence Programme for the top English Aquatics Athletes. The same year I represented England South in the UK School Games in Loughborough, winning gold, silver and bronze medals across the three events.
I was born healthy, however at 18 months I was rushed to hospital with encephalitis and suffering from lack of oxygen, following which it was discovered I had brain damage. I found my school years difficult and from eight years old discovered a talent and enjoyment for swimming.
At 10 years old I became Dorset Aged Group Champion in 200m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke, and went on to qualify for South West Regionals.
Since being classified as a Para Swimmer in November 2016 I have won medals at British Youths and Open Nationals, including nine Golds, ten silvers and six bronze medals at British Nationals and two silver medals at English Nationals.
Funding is required to assist with travelling and accommodation to five National Championships which I am required to compete in to progress on the British Para Swimming Development Programme to the World Elite and Podium Potential for future Paralympics. These Competitions are at Manchester and Sheffield, and as I live on the South Coast there is a high cost of getting to these Meets. The average cost of each trip is £500 to £1000, depending on duration of event.
The Competitive Swimming Season starts each September, with the next key Para Swimming event being the Activity Alliance British Nationals held in December, followed by British International Meet in Sheffield early 2019.
