Get George to Berklee
I am George Collins and live near Settle in The Yorkshire Dales. I am in my final year studying A levels whilst also spending most of my time playing guitar.
Anyone who knows me will know that music is my passion, and I spend every waking hour playing, performing and practicing. In 2018 I was named as a runner up in Lee Ritenours Six String Theory International Guitar Competition plus I won the Pendle Young Musicians Bursary which supported my trip to Berklee College of Music Summer Guitar sessions, this was the most amazing experience of my life and for one week with very little sleep I experienced a taste of what a Berklee education could do for me.
For the first time I was surrounded by like minded students, inspirational tutors and world class facilities, the best and worst week of my life merged into one..... the best because it was the best week of my life and the worst because I know the cost of getting to Berklee is extremely high and there is no comparable course in the UK.
So my mission to get to Berklee has started, my audition is on 6th December 2018 and until then I won’t know if I will be awarded any form of scholarship.
What at is the cost of Berklee:
$40000 a year tuition
$18000 University living expenses
Unfortunatley UK student loans are not available for study in the US nor is US federal aid available to UK students. My challenge to get to Berklee has started and I am applying for scholarships, bursaries, sponsorship and any other means of funding that can help. Every donation no matter how big or small will all help towards my goal and dream. I need to prove that I have one years worth of funding to be granted a student visa.
If if you are interested in making a donation and would like me to do something for you in return for example a gig or private guitar lesson then please do get in touch to discuss as I don’t necessarily expect people to support me for nothing in return.
Thank you you for taking the time to read my story
Today I got the best Christmas present, an offer of a place to study at Berklee. I still have a way to go with the fundraising but it’s becoming a reality. Thank you for your support no matter how small every donation is appreciated.
Off to a good start with the fundraising and some great events planned in the near future. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and also to those who have offered me fundraising opportunities... you know who you are and I am truly grateful that people have been so kind.
