Get Fiona to the COP27 climate meeting in November

Hi, My name is Fiona Ryan. I have been working on climate change and forest issues in the UN climate space since 1997. The world needs to end tropical deforestation, which is necessary to keep global warming under 1.5 degrees. Protection of tropical forests seems to have dropped in priority in the environmental movement. They also do not see the importance of economic development in low and middle-income countries where deforestation is rampant. I need to attend and prepare for the Climate Conference COP 27 in Egypt in November 2022, the Biodiversity COP 15 in December, and next year's climate COP 28 in 2023. At these meetings, I will spread the word that emissions trading in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is the only way to provide sufficient funds to enable these countries to improve the lives of their people while protecting their forests. I also need to raise the profile of economic development and poverty reduction in contrast to the flabby and obscure concept of "rights" currently promoted by environment and international aid groups. Unbelievably, the December Biodiversity Convention meeting in Canada barely mentions deforestation in the draft decision text. In Montreal, I plan to emphasize that deforestation is the biggest threat to biodiversity and needs to be treated as a crucial issue in the agreement. Let's not move on from the problem of deforestation until we finish fixing this massive threat to the planet and its people.
