Get Edward Lear scamping again

Edward Lear is our much loved 4 year old Welsh Terrier. I adore him more than anything in the world. Edward is a happy, friendly, popular dog who has lots of friends both in real life and on Instagram who check in everyday to see his adventures. (He is @edward.lear on instagram).

Last September we noticed he had a limp in his left front leg and took him to the vet. We thought he had probably pulled a muscle or similar and after many appointments and much investigation we were devastated to find out that he has elbow dysplasia in his front leg and also has torn cruciate ligaments in two of his rear legs. He also now has arthritis.

Our vet referred us to a specialist hospital for which we are incredibly grateful and are so happy that our precious little dog is in the safest of hands.

Edward's treatment plan is to have three operations, one for each leg that is affected. He had the first two operations just before Christmas and is recovering well. Next week we return for a checkup and hand him over for the final operation. Edward and I spend all of our time together and leaving the hospital without him is really distressing.

We have just found out that our insurance will not cover his elbow displasia as three and a half years ago when he broke a claw the vet noticed he has very slight discomfort in his elbow and they are considering this a pre-existing condition.

In addition, our insurance has a limit of £4,000 for the ligament conditions and are treating this as one condition even though it affects two legs. So, we are left with bills of £7,500 and are asking for help to pay them.

All I want is for my funny little dog to be able to run around again like the crazy terrier he is and climb mountains in the Lake District and Snowdonia like he used to and enjoy his life to the fullest. He hasn't walked for more than ten minutes in four months and I feel so bad for him. He's missed out on so much fun and excitement.

Both Richard (Edward's dog-dad) and I would be so incredibly grateful for any help you can give us with our vet bills. We will be posting daily updates on instagram and here as well so that you can see how he is doing.

Our instagram community is genuinely one of the most wonderful things there is, over ten thousand people follow Edward and the support we have had during this horribly upsetting time has been invalable and we are so thankful to every person who has reached out to us.

Thank you so much for reading, we love Edward to bits and are so happy that you do too.
