gap personnel 2018 Challenge



I am Richard Thorne , I am from Cheltenham, I work for gap personnel. Alex Mather is a close friend and also worked for me at gap personnel previously.

Alex Mather worked for gap personnel for 3 years and is part of the gap personnel family. He has a wife, Lexi, and two young daughters.

Alex was sadly diagnosed with leukaemia in March 2018 in Cheltenham. In addition to leukaemia, Alex has suffered with severe infections that he has had to battle just to successfully reach the current stage of treatment.

Alex is currently undergoing the second stage of chemotherapy treatment, and so far the treatment is going well. Alex's determination, will, and attitude has been inspirational to those around him who have supported him through this difficult time. During this time Alex has also married his wife Lexi.

Each year gap personnel group hold an annual charity challenge, and in 2018 we have decided to raise charitable funds for Alex and his family to support and help during his recovery period.

The funds will be used to ensure Alex can support the family away , and to help with living costs, and hope to take a small break when he is out of treatment.

This year, a group of 12 employees from gap personnel group are taking on a 24 hour Canoeing Challenge from Scotland to England.

The team will start at 10am on Saturday 7th July in Kelso and finish in Berwick-upon-Tweed on Sunday 8th July at 12pm.

Through the challenge, we will complete trials and challenges to earn our dinner, and spend a night sleeping outdoors.

The team are aiming to raise over £5,000 in donations to help aid the recovery journey for Alex and his family.

The funds raised will go directly to Alex, Lexi and their daughters to support them through this time where Alex has been unable to work due to the illness.

The funds raised will bring some relief and allow them to continue living a family life during this difficult time.
