Health is fundamental for everyone to experience a happy and productive life. That is our core belief at G. Alex Foundation and our mission is to promote health through tennis and wellness programs.
Our Academic Achievement Program brings us great joy because we witness students who have low-income and limited resources, which hinder their ability to succeed in school, and unfortunately in life, have a chance. In the 2016-2017 school year, 50% of students in the program improved their GPAs!
Students followed throughout the academic year and rewarded for incremental and overall improvement. Our goal is to reach more at-risk students.
In 2017-2018, funds will be used to provide school supplies, tutoring, clothing, personal hygiene items, rewards and incentives, fitness supplies, health and nutrition information, and items to meet individual student needs to assist them in focusing on their education. For example, when a single mother started working mid-shift and could not pick up her son and daughter from school, we provided the students with bus passes until other transportation arrangements could be made.
G. Alex Foundation will also host a Reward Fair at the end of the school year. The Fair will include life skills learning experiences like nutrition, fitness, college, and math by experts in the community. Also included will be a shopping experience for the students to spend reward dollars earned throughout the year and practice their math skills.
