    My name is William Gafford, and I am the cofounder of Gafford Girls' Soccer Academy (GSA)/Gafford Ladies' FC in Kampala, Uganda. My good friend Henry Barungi from Kampala, Uganda is the founder and head coach of the team. I have been funding GSA primarily on my own since the year 2012. I usually pay around $150 every month. This covers league fees, player licenses, transportation, food/water, jerseys, and doctor fees.

I started graduate school at Samford University in January 2016 to become a CRNA. Unfortunately, this means I will no longer be able to work and fund the soccer team. My hope is that I will get enough donations to help sustain the team while I am in school (until May, 2018). Henry and the girls mean so much to me, and I hate that I will be unable to fully fund the team anymore.

GSA began in November 2012 when Henry told me that he wanted to start a women's soccer team in the area. When we began the club, there were not many opportunities for women to play soccer in the area. There were no leagues. We did not have jerseys or proper balls. Most of the girls did not even have shoes to play in. A lot has changed since 2012. We are now officially licensed through FUFA (Federation of Uganda Football Associations). Last year, we played in the first ever FUFA Elite Women's League and finished 5th place out of 12 teams. So far this year, we are first place in the FUFA Elite League! We currently have 29 players that play with the club. 14 are on the Youth Ugandan National Team for their age and 15 of the 29 players are orphans. This makes it difficult for players to pay any fees. This is why donations are so important!!

This club is MORE than just a soccer team. Our goal is to recruit, develop, promote, and empower ladies in the area through soccer. This team gives girls that are orphans a chance to be part of a team. A family. The team brings the community together. Please share this page and donate.
