Cory Staats Recovery Fund

$9,890 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 126 people in 45 months
Per Gofundme, in order to make sure my campaign to raise money for Cory is legit. I have been asked to provide the following information.
1. My name is Michael Marias
2. I'm from Akron, Ohio
3. My friend from high school Stacy Hughes is Cory Staats sister.
4. The Funds will be given to the Staats family to help out in whatever way will help most. Depending on how much money is raised will probably determine if the money will be spent towards a vehicle, home repairs or bills.
5. I would like to personally present Cory, Stacy, and their family with the Check when all fund raising is done.

Please help if you can even a little adds up to a lot! I am amazed that we have raised almost $3000 in 2 days!!

Hi Everyone! I would love to tell you all about Cory and our long lasting history and friendship but that wouldn't be the truth.  The truth is that Cory is the younger brother of a friend of mine that I went to high school with. I actually think I have only met Cory maybe once or twice in my lifetime, and Cory probably doesn't even know me. I do know his sister Stacy and their amazing mother. Their families hardships with Cory's condition and their continued faith in everyone they know is truly something you would see in a movie or even read about in the bible. Families like these are a rarity, a blessing and an inspiration to anyone that has the privilege of knowing them.

So here I am inspired by Stacy and her family to try and help in any way I possibly can, as I see how inspired they are by Cory's faith, love of life and perseverance through each and everyday of ups and downs. Cory was diagnosed at the age of 5 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Cory is now 34, battling back and forth with his condition. Most recently Cory has been in the hospital for over 38 days dealing with multiple complications, and every time the Doctors clear up one issue it seems like more complications fall his way.  His strength and his families love keep him going through more and more difficult situations. He has overcome so many obstacles along the way, inspiring everyone with his super human ability to always see the positive in some of the most negative situations.  I want to make sure that he knows his faith is not misplaced and that even someone that doesn't really know him, is inspired by him.

I contacted Stacy and asked if there was anything I could do to help Cory and her family, as I can only imagine what they are currently going through and have been strong enough to deal with over the years. It was brought to my attention that when Cory comes home there needs to be some improvements to his bedroom and bathroom to make it more suitable for him.  Even more important though was the fact that Cory's main form of transportation is in major disrepair and not safe to be used without worry on a daily basis.  I can think of no greater way to show Cory his faith in others truely is a blessing and I would love to raise enough money to at least help Cory and the Staats family to get him safe and reliable transportation.  Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

If this wasn't enough to inspire you to help, please read a post that Stacy posted that truly would give you insight to the type of people you would be helping!

I will be posting some of Stacy's updates in the updates on here! if you need inspiration they are worth a read!

HELLO EVERYONE!!! What a fitting time of year to be able to announce that I was able to personally drop off all donations to Cory today! I am truly thankful to know Cory and the Staats family!! I am extremely thankful for all of your support in raising funds for the family. I am thankful knowing that people I know and complete strangers stepped up to help make even the smallest difference in Cory's life! I am thankful I am in a position to help, and I am thankful knowing the funds raised will be put to good use! In a time when all we see on the news are the bad sides of people, it's a blessing to see the good we can do when we work together toward a common goal, even if we all have many differences. That is how it was intended to be! I was going to close the account but another one of the Staats' family friends asked me to keep it open and so I shall! I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukka, and amazing New Year! Sincerely, Michael Marias.

Hi everyone! This is Michael Marias. I am the one that started this GoFundMe account for Cory and his family. I was going to close out this account and deliver all donations to the Staats family but just as I was about to, even more amazing people stepped up and made some incredible donations. I just posted an update from Stacy and I'm sad to hear Cory is back in the hospital. I figure I will give one last push to see if we can get closer to the end goal! Please keep praying for Cory and his family and if you can spread the word so more donations come in that would be amazing!! I will keep it open for another two weeks!! Thank you and God Bless!

Cory Update
Cory is being admitted to Metro. The past week our Cory has continued retain water. He has some serious edema and even his back and chest are swollen and hard. He has been on lasix for days and increased his dosage but it it hasn't improved. They will administer IV lasix at Metro. He has fluid in his lungs as well, most likely due to the edema. He is nervous and feeling scared but he is in the best place possible at Metro. This is the really difficult part of Duchenne. It wrecks havoc on every part of your body as the disease progresses. It is horrible watching your loved ones battle. My heart is hurting for him. We are praying diuretic helps him to increase his output to alleviate the pressure around his heart, lungs, bladder, kidneys etc.
To all of our prayer warriors out there, say some prayers for Cory Staats and send some positive vibes his way.
Today, I was with him and his awesome nurse while we prepared for the ambulance to come and get him. He is such a kind soul. Such a good hearted pure human who cares so deeply about loving one another and our beautiful planet. I held his hands fighting back my tears because every hospital trip is scary and you never really know what is ahead on this journey. I ket giving kisses and rubbing his legs and arms to give him some comfort.
We will keep you all abreast of his progress❤️
