At 7:53 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2014, I received a call from my frantic 16 year old sister begging me to come over because my mom was not breathing.
I drove fast, but ultimately, not fast enough.
My mom suffered from asthma for over a decade, but to lose such an extraordinary woman to something so ordinary feels wrong. She survived teen pregnancy, the loss of my biological father, and drug addiction, and went on to meet and marry her soul mate David Anderson, raise three more children, and start a business. She survived financial hardships and a myriad of health issues, and I truly believed there was nothing in this world that could bring her down.
Her life was not an easy one, but rather than shy away from challenges, my mother sought them out and overcame them. She was a force to be reckoned with, and possessed a fire within her so strong, you could almost feel the heat.
She was passionate. Fearless. Brave. Resilient. Selfless.
She was the glue that held my family together, our identity intrinsically tied to her. I am Molly's daughter, we are Molly's family, and not only are we left struggling to figure out how to get by without her, but we are also left struggling to figure out who we are without her.
From the overwhelming support my family has received over the past few days, I know we are not the only ones who mourn her. She touched so many people, from so many different walks of life, and always put those she loved before herself.
In honor of the woman who was my inspiration, role model, and best friend, I'm setting up a memorial fund to give anyone interested in offering support an opportunity to help our family during this devastating time. Proceeds will go towards the service and life after Molly.
