A Better, Healthier ME

My father died a few years ago at the age of 65 from complications to diabetes. My doctors have told me that I am going down that same road having been diagnosed with several health conditions, including diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, metabolic syndrome, peripheral arterial disease, GERD, and degenerative back pain.  As I am now, I should not expect to live to retirement age.

I have been told that having bariatric surgery could help instantly cure some of my conditions and can be a tool to help me keep off extra weight; thus, extending my life. However, my insurance has an exclusion to bariatric surgery and I have to pay for everything out-of-pocket. So, after much consideration and years of research and planning, I have decided to ask for help. 

I have spent the past 10 years researching this procedure. I have also spent the past year working with my employer to change our insurance to a plan that would cover the surgery. Unfortunately, it is clear that this is never going to happen.

I know this is not a "quick fix." I know this is a tool that when used properly and effectively, can help to make a permanent change to my health and my life. Everyone who uses this tool loses weight. I know that a lot of work is needed by me to keep the weight off. 

I am also not one that asks for help. But, here I am. I hope my public announcement and plea for help demonstrates my level of commitment and desire to be healthy. If you know me, then you know that I have been as transparent as possible with my life and I am not going to stop now. You can expect me to share everything with you along this journey. 

I dont expect to raise all the money here and have decided to take out loans to cover the cost, so any amount no matter how small is deeply appreciated.
