Topaz needs surgery at Cornell

Two years ago I purchased, sight unseen a horse at auction that was destined for slaughter. His coggins said he was 10 years old (turns out he's really closer to 17) and he was so drugged that the proxy said the ring girl did a headstand on him. He was scared of men, scared of hats and came off as pretty green. I paid a vet to do an oral exam on him after purchase and was told that his teeth were fine. Topaz has become a huge part of my life in the literal as well as the metaphorical sense. Though he hasn't had any under saddle work I've come a long way with his weight, his ground manners, and his attitude towards men (and men in hats).

In recent months Topaz has been having sinus discharge on and off. I called Dr. Laura Rath of Midstate Veterinary out and her exam reveled some pretty bad teeth. She touched up what she could to make Topaz comfortable and had to have a specialist come out. Dr. Rebecca Goodale of Early Winter Equine came highly recomended from several sources. Upon her exam and radiographs it's been determined that two broken teeth (one on the left and one on the right) and a few other bad ones on each side are causing the sinus problems. The broken teeth are allowing food to travel into his sinuses and rot there.

The surgeon at Cornell is suggesting two surgeries, the left side first and then the right side later. I have some CareCredit but not enough to cover the surgery and Cornell requires payment at the of service. If I can raise the money soon there is an appointment for Topaz available in just over a week. The longer he waits the higher the risk of long term sinusitis.
