DJ Jose Castro Memorial (USDJA)

$2,123 of $5,000 goal

We learned on October 25, 2015 that our long-time friend, fellow disc jockey, and USDJA Founding Member, Jose Castro (Baltimore, MD) was found deceased at his home.  We are deeply saddened by this sudden loss.

Jose was loyal to his friends and would be the first to offer assistance when it came to helping another DJ learn about any aspect of the industry and regularly gave his time, talents, and use of equipment to those in need.

While Jose could be fun-loving and quick to playfully pick on his fellow DJs, he was a very private person as well.  USDJA is establishing this fund now to provide immediate support for Jose's friends and family to sponsor a proper memorial service.

Any excess funds will be used to the creation of an annual memorial award in his name for the U.S. disc jockey that best portrays Jose's spirit of helpful service to those in need within the industry.

Questions or information can be sent to Jason Walsh at

Current clients of Avalon Entertainment can also contact USDJA at the above email address.   While we cannot take responsibility for his affairs, we will assist in fulfilling confirmed entertainment services for which a contract was completed and a deposit was made to Jose.

RIP Jose Castro and thank you for your many years of entertainment service to our region!

Jose was to DJ our wedding in November. We were sorry to hear of his passing and appreciated the Association stepping in to provide music on our day.

I was trying to figure out a donation that would kick out a number on something that had meaning with knowing Jose. So to kick this up to $1,998.00 raised, here's a little $40.00 donation for now, and I'll do another donation soon. It was 1998, in my first 12-months that I met this guy, he introduced me to Lou & Bruce who were invaluable in my life as a young man, and I learned quite a bit from Jose. He was well respected and he will clearly be missed by so many people and fellow performers. Life's so short and I know everyone has at least one great memory, if not so many more to remember him by. This is really sad news, and now I'm rambling. I hope maybe one day there can be some sort of an award in his name because without getting too much into detail an award of something to the effect of "This is why hard work is important" should come from this. To me, Jose was this guy who turned the tables and made something out of the tables (pun intended) and the many things he had to offer this world will surely be missed, yet never forgotten. Maybe some of the events that need to be covered can be done in good faith and the balances due on those events could be funds used towards his services and final memorial. Just an idea. Well, here's to you Jose! I wish we had stayed in better contact in my young adult years. I will remember what you taught me, how hard you were on me to always be better, and the things I learned from you.... I laugh as I write this because I just used it in my wedding lineup this past weekend as it just occurred to me that, wow, I learned something from you 15 - 16 years ago, and I've used it in every single solitary wedding I've ever done when lining up my group for introductions. Yes, you will be missed sir, you will be missed,

This donation is made in the name of Jose Castro. I remember the first time I met Jose, as he was the president the Baltimore Area Disc Jockey Association, Jose greeted me as if he had known me for years. On many occasion Jose would give me help and tips on how to be a better DJ. Jose was always willing to help out whenever and however he could. The world has truly lost a great person, friend, disc jockey, and human being. Rest in peace my friend.
