As a disabled Veteran, I understand what other disabled veterans deal with on a daily basis. I am familiar with with the importance of recreation and the difficulty we face in participating in recreational activities.

I want to change that by building a boat and taking veterans out for a great time on the water. Not only that, but I want to give them skills that they can use and hopefully inspire a few others to reach for their dreams.

How does my building a boat and taking other's out for a day on the water help?

It’ll inspire others
Being disabled, there are a great many things that we are unable to do. That can leave us feeling useless. With so many limitations it's hard to imagine being able to complete huge projects. By any measure, the build i'm about to embark on is a huge project. I will prove that it can be done and hopefully inspire others that have a disability to not shy away from large plans and to follow their dreams.

Recreation for the disabled
Being unable to do things due to our health is a given, but those of us that are disabled also have a difficult challenge in making time and money available for recreation activities. The worst thing about that is recreation is incredibly important for keeping spirits up and dealing with the issues our maladies inflict on us. Being able to take others out, free of charge to them, is a goal worthy of being undertaken.

Comradery through Independence
Along with feelings of uselessness, we tend to also feel too dependent on others for our basic needs. Being able pass on the skills to catch and prepare our own food, maintain and handle a boat, and all the while doing that with other disabled veterans that share a common bond is a great thing.

Thank the Deserving
It's difficult to be so dependent on others and not always have a way to give back. I hope to not only take disabled veterans out on the water, but give them a chance to invite at least one person who has been instrumental in their rehabilitation. That will give them a chance to share a great time on the water and hopefully for a little bit, forget all about the trials and tribulations of being disabled.

This is my dream. But I need your help to attain it! Please check out my project on my website FV-Escape-Hatch.Com and offer constructive criticism and words of support. If you can do so, please consider sharing this with those you know and donate today! Every little bit helps! Your donation of $5, $10, or more will help me make my dream a reality!

I've started my first  fundraising goal at $500 so I can get started on this adventure! Please help me get there! Thanks!

I'm beginning to doubt that I will be able to raise enough to complete the project. It has an estimated final budget of close to $100,000 and after 8 months of fundraising I have not been able to gain much traction with donations or shares.

While I'm trying to figure things out, I've decided to suspend donations for the time being. I also have all the donations that I've received to date and will not be spending any of the money until it's decided that the project will go forward. If it's determined that this project is beyond me, I will do my best to return the current donations, in full, in as short a time as possible.

Thanks for your understanding and your support! Whether the project continues or not, I can't begin to tell you how much your donations have meant to me!

Wow! Thanks everyone! We are over halfway to our first fundraising goal! That is outstanding and I can't even begin to thank you enough for all of your support!

I will be getting these donations at the next fund drop from the campaign, first business day of August, and will be able to have the project begin to take shape! With a little more help from a few more people we can make our goal by then! So let's continue sharing this project with everyone and spreading the word!

Wish all of you the best!

P.s. I'm sharing a concept video I made a little while ago of what I think the boat will look like. It's possible that some things may change a little through the build but we'll see. This was one of my first attempts at animation and video and I sure hope to improve.
