Funeral Expenses for Penny Sherwood

Penny Sherwood was my aunt. As a child, I knew through the stories my mom relayed to me about her traveling the world. When I heard the song “Benny and the Jets” I thought they were saying “Penny and the Jets” and I would think they were talking about her travels. When she came to visit, it was a big affair, as my Mom adored her.
She later married and had three children. When the children were adolescents, her husband left. Penny returned to Ottawa to teach English. She loved people and loved to help them. Many times, life gave her lemons, but she always made lemonade.
She was a very young 59 years old when very unexpectedly she passed away from a tragic brain bleed. Just a few days before her death, she was posting about enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Then the unthinkable happened. She disappeared and was found 24 hours later with a massive brain bleed, from which she was unable to recover.
Penny was an avid supporter of organ donation and because of the type of trauma she had, she was able to donate her organs to help those who were in need. Penny opened her home and her heart to people from all over the world. She also cared for her 3 young adult children, 2 of whom are disabled.
Penny did not foresee this day and did not plan for her death. She had no life insurance and not much money saved. All of the expenses she had and will incur now fall on her middle daughter, Kelly, who is currently seeking employment. Kelly will now need to make decisions and handle financial arrangements, assist her brother and sister, and all the while come to terms with the loss of her mother.
Penny’s ex-husband and the children’s father disappeared from the family over 15 years ago. She was a single mother trying to do what was best for her children. If you can spare any amount to help with the funeral costs and short-term care for her children, it will be greatly appreciated. Her death was sudden and the expenses are piling up, and Kelly will need access to liquid cash as soon as possible.
