 CLEVELAND, OH
It is with heartfelt sadness that David Wilder, beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend; unexpectedly passed away due to a random act of senseless violence during a drive by shooting on March 25, 2017.

David committed his life to his tireless fight for adjunct/contingent faculty rights, social justice and the environment. He never failed to stand up for the needs of those people less fortunate! He was a great artist, teacher, union leader and historian. He was a professor at Tri-C, John Carroll and Cleveland State.  He was a founding member of the Ohio Part-Time Faculty Association and a key member of The New Faculty Majority.

He was so modest and such a kind person. He has inspired so many young and old minds alike, and he reminds us to keep fighting for what is right. He has left a legacy for us to carry on. He will be greatly missed by many!

You can see some of his work at this website he setup.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to this gofundme campaign to support his final expenses.  Any excess funds raised will be used to setup an art scholarship in David's name.

The Wilder family continues to be blessed by everyone's generous support. We are hanging in there and trying to work through the process of dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy. It's been awesome to know that our Uncle David touch so many students. If you have been following the news in Cleveland the Grand Jury indicted the individuals today who have caused us so much pain. We all know that David would seek to find solutions to senseless violence in our cities. As we continue to mourn David's loss we ask for continued thoughts and prayers and for us to rally around positive causes to affect change in the future. The Wilder's!!!!

The Wilder family wanted to thank all of you for your generous support. The memorial of David Wilder that was held at John Carroll University was a fitting tribute to the life that David lived. It was amazing to hear and see all those who attended attest to the person we knew David to be. Thanks for those who attended, watched online, and were with us in spirit. As the dust settles from the past week the Family has a long road ahead to grieve and deal with the day to day matters of such a tragic loss such as this. We are comforted to know that each of you have contributed to this process with such generous giving. We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information. Once again thank you for the support from the Wilder Family.

My deepest sympathy to Dave's family on this sad loss. I live in NYC but I knew Dave when I lived in Cleveland year ago. I always liked talking art art with him, as we often did after Militant Labor Forum. I appreciate Dave's life as a socialist, supporter of the SWP and defender of women's rights. I wish I could be at his memorial, but I am thinking of him with fondness. A sweetheart of a guy.

Good to hear that the courts are moving forward with the prosecution. Is it possible you can place a link to David's memorial live stream video recording from JCU here or on his FB wall?
