On March 22, 2014 the lives of a Fullerton, California family would be forever changed. Lisa was waiting for her husband Jeff to return from a short afternoon bike ride.
Two and half-hours later the phone rang. It was the emergency room at the University of California Irvine located in Orange. He must've broken an arm or a leg Lisa thought to herself. "Will daddy be in a wheelchair," their 7-year-old daughter Chloe asked. The youngest Sophie, 6, worried about the annual father-daughter dance. Jeff had just taken the two girls to their favorite event held at Laguna Road Elementary. Lisa assured them that daddy would be fine, then headed down the Santa Ana Freeway, passing Disneyland along the way. She thought about the family plans to visit the park over Spring Break. But Cinderella and Tinkerbell will have to wait...
"Jeff's spinal cord is crushed," the UCI doctors told Lisa. Lisa listened in disbelief as she learned that her husband had been airlifted to UCI after a passerby found him unconscious along a section of the Fullerton Loop bike path that had been altered.
Jeff would undergo complex spinal fusion surgery while Fullerton Police collected his bike and gear. Jeff's helmet, like his spinal cord had been broken in two. His injuries were catastrophic.
Now Jeff's friends, family, and colleagues have come together to raise funds to help him and this family with medical costs and expenses that lay ahead of them. They have an undeniable and unshakable faith that God has a plan and will give them the strength that perhaps, one day, Sophie and Chloe can dance with daddy again.
