Hi everyone,
I am setting this up from the many requests I've already received from our family and friends.
If you have not heard the news, my dad, Wayne Claxton, was recently diagnosed with Sarcoma, a cancer in the soft tissue. The tumor is high up on his leg, and growing rapidly. Chemotherapy is not an option for this type of cancer, and the option of radiation and surgery would not have given a positive success rate. With his doctors, and the team at Juravinski Hospital, it was decided that a full amputation of his right leg would be the only option.
As you can imagine, our family has gone through an emotional roller coaster. Many quick decisions had to be made, one of them being to sell the house and move into one that would be more accessible.
With the many advancements in technology, once recovered, my dad will be getting a prosthetic leg, which will allow him to return to most of the things he is doing now. However these prosthetics that allow for more mobility are not covered, and can cost between $50-$70,000. And that does not include all of the other medical costs that come with this surgery. Any money raised will go directly to the cost of his prosthetic leg.
We have had such support from all of our family and friends, which we all truly appreciate from the bottom of hearts.
