Your New Year's Resolution

Donation protected

Can you imagine if this was your beautiful baby boy and one year later, he can't walk, talk or communicate with you? This is Michael. He has a debilitating, RARE disease known as Haw River Syndrome. It normally does not show up in the few folks that have it, until their later years but Michael was 11 when diagnosed. If you look this up, you will find that there's not enough research or knowledge to know how to help Michael. He has seizures almost everyday, and can no longer walk, eat, talk and has to have help breathing. A few months ago he had a seizure lasting almost 30 minutes. Can you imagine watching your child suffer through this?

Even without their Father's presence, Michael's Mom has always been a good provider for her family of 5 children until Michael got really ill. She has worked as much as possible through this past year but because Michael requires 24/7 care and trips to UNC Children's Hospital, her hours were very few and ultimately has lost her job, When she finally acquired a part-time nurse and Mom was able to get another job, Michael ended up in the hospital again for 7 days. Michael is covered by Medicaid which pays for MOST of Michael's Healthcare. He also receives disability, BUT it is not enough to pay the family bills. Mom has lost her car, seeks out money each month to help pay her bills and has only the bare necessities in her home; water & power; no luxuries such as cable and internet.

My husband, friends & I have tried to help this family since November of 2017 but funds are few and far between for a family like theirs. There have been a few organizations & churches that have helped, but those have been tapped out. It's a sad state of affairs when someone has to live day to day not knowing where their next meal will come from, all the while watching their son/brother get worse everyday and there is not a category for Funds for them. My heart breaks for this YOUNG Mom.

The goal I have set for now will barely pay their rent and utilities for 3 months, during which time the small supplement of Food Stamps the Mom receives can now go to food and necessities. At least while she is taking care of Michael, we can help bills can be the least of her worries.

My plea to you, my friends & family, is to help me help this family. Their bills are very few BUT they come every month without ongoing subsidies or assistance, that are now in the works but that takes time.
Then there are family matters; one daughter could not go to her Senior Prom but with our help Mom could pay for her cap & gown for graduatIon. in April, one daughter turned 16 and while our kids are getting drivers license and sometimes cars; she got nothing for her vey special birthday. The Mom cried when the daughter told her through her own tears, that it was alright. IT'S NOT ALRIGHT!!! These 2 things are milestones in a child's life, they did not get to enjoy and are moments they will never get back.

I know a lot of you are very supportive to various fundraisers which are all so important but I can't think of a better way to give than to someone you KNOW of with IMMEDIATE NEEDS, especially when any and ALL resources available have been exhausted. This family needs REAL help TODAY!!

Unless there is a miracle cure, Michael's disease will eventually take his sweet life, which is sad in its own right, let's not allow it to take away everything from his family while he is struggling to live. Won't you help me?
Every dollar counts so donate as much or as little as you can so we can continue to pay the bills and provide food and clothing to this family. You can donate a little at a time; this is an ongoing struggle for Michael's family and I will keep this site ongoing to help them. I will be paying bills for them and assign someone to help with her shopping needs. 100% of the money you give will go to this family and will not be used frivolously. Together we can make a difference for ONE family and help them get back on their feet.

Thank you for any and all donations & PLEASE share this with your Family & Friends.

Gratefully,
Patty Brothers
