Hi, y'all, my name's Kriss. It's not safe for me to live by myself, and I can't currently do little things like cook or shower by myself. So I live with my good friends, the Fields family. Mary's my primary carer, and Kevin's my best friend. And right now, they need your help.
This is the Fields family: Kevin and Mary, and their three kids, Sarah, Robert, and Andrew. Mary's a SAHM, Kevin does merchandising inside Walmart and CVS stores. Sarah's in her freshman year of college, while Robert's prepping for college next year, and Drew's in middle school.
Mary's been in the hospital for a week, due to two hernias that strangled and killed most of her small intestine. She had emergency surgery on 2/16 to remove the dead bowel and reattach the good parts, but will need another surgery to close everything back up completely. She's in the hospital two counties away from home. And she has a long road to recovery ahead of her, from coming off the breathing machine to relearning nutrition and how to eat for her new decreased intestine size.
All this means that Kevin's had to take over Mary's work. Since he believes in putting family before career, he's juggling taking care of the kids, and taking care of me, and being at the hospital for Mary. He's running back and forth between Mt. Sterling (where we live) and Lexington (where Mary's at UK Hospital), 39 miles away. I know it doesn't sound like a huge distance, but he's doing it in a 16 year old van with lousy gas mileage that overheats when you say the words "medium salsa" at it.
This is where you come in.
A lot of Kevin & Mary's friends (and mine!) have asked how they can help. Mary's got health insurance that covers (we hope) all of her medical bills. But with Kevin putting his focus on family, he's not working. And with my health issues, I haven't been able to work more than a couple hours a week in over a year. That means no money coming in to the household for bills, gas for the van, food (including more fast foodso Kevin can feed the kids and I on the fly then head back to the hospital), you know, the little things. I'm sure you'll agree, family comes first. And you can help support the Fields family during this difficult time.
Kevin and Mary do so much for other people. They've been taking care of me for over a year, so I can work on getting my health back. When Kevin's mom was sick, they opened their home to her, too. While they've never had a lot, they've always given what little they could to help others in need. It's time for us to give back to them. All I can give is my time, emotional support, and oratory skills. It would mean the world to me, and to them, if you would give a little bit of time and financial support.
I'll be forever grateful, and I know Kevin and Mary will be too. Thank you.
