Help for Lindsay

$3,250 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 81 people in 1 month
On Tuesday morning, February 5th, Lindsay de Feliz was sitting at her computer in her living room in the province of Santiago Rodriguez in the northwest mountains of the Dominican Republic.  Her husband and a friend had just left for a run.

A young man, armed with a gun, entered the room through a glass sliding door from the rear of the house.  He threatened her, had her lie on the floor, then stuffed her mouth and nose with a rag until she passed out.  He then tried to finish her off by banging her head into the ceramic tile floor repeatedly until she was unconscious.

Like many in the DR, Lindsay does not have health insurance.  Unlike other countries, in the DR they will not permit you to leave the hospital unless your bill is paid in full.  Money was borrowed to settle the charges so she could go home.  This money has to be repaid.

There will be ongoing medical bills, additional CT scans, tests, etc.

Please consider making a contribution to her medical fund. Thank you!

(Update from Lindsay)

Update
First thank you so much for everyone who has donated. I cannot express how grateful I am as I have no idea how we would have managed. We have to keep an eye on any signs of neurological issues so my husband has rented a car from a friend so we can get to the hospital quickly if needed. There is still a potential issue of bleeding into my brain.
The police and legal authorities are doing all they can (with the normal financial help) to find the guy and they are making good progress. I have been told I will be out of danger in around 2 weeks.
In the meantime, the pain is impressive. Not just my head but my whole body where bruises are appearing everywhere, especially my back where he sat on me, my neck, my arms where he held me down.
Mentally I am doing OK. Just having problems remembering words and writing properly sometimes and my voice (which was not good before) is much worse due to the asphyxiation I suppose so people who found it hard to hear me before are now finding it even harder. I also get tired very quickly when I try to concentrate.
All of this I am sure will resolve itself in time – I just wanted to say thank you – from the bottom of my heart.

Today Lindsay returned to the hospital to have some stitches removed and then to the provincial medical examiner, who determined that she needs close medical monitoring for at least 15 days.

She’s been interviewed by dozens of law enforcement personnel, including colonels, captains and at least one general. They are taking this very seriously.

Thank you to those who have contributed, thank you, and for those who haven’t yet, please know any amount will be important and greatly appreciated.
