Every community needs a great independent bookstore, and for 17 years Frugal Muse Books, Music & Video has served the western Chicago suburbs with inexpensive used and new books, vinyl, CDs, DVDs, videogames and more. We host book signings, open mic nights, book clubs, trivia nights and more. We're all about recycling, all about community. And we want to continue serving Darien and the surrounding area for years to come. Please help us maintain our low prices, finance more events, bring in more A-list authors and advertise more so we can continue serving the community we love. Your support will help us compete with e-books and online retailers. And in return, we promise to give you lots of free stuff and free hugs. . . with your permission, of course.
We host authors both well-known and unknown, giving our community access to writers as diverse as their topics. From blockbuster thriller writers such as Scott Turow to TV & Radio hosts like Thom Hartmann (The Crash of 2016) to comic actors such as Matt Walsh (Veep, Upright Citizens Brigade) to the local self-published author in need of a venue, we deliver live authors year round.
The holidays provide opportunities for local schools to strut their musical stuff. And it's always their first professional gig, since we pay them in hot chocolate, pizza and sodas.
We've even hosted 3 wedding receptions over the years--well, okay, we were only one stop on each couple's reception tour, but, still, we're proud to spread the love.
Between our open mic nights, trivia nights, free music events and special events like our Harry Potter Release Party, Frugal Muse is a place where kids and adults alike always have a place to play among the book shelves.
Frugal Muse has always been a family affair. Not literally (nepotism, ick) but figuratively: our former employees who've gone off to school or found other jobs always come back to visit--and even sometimes to work the bigger events.
