From Pavement To Paycheck!
Behind every successful social movement are people like you who make a difference. This giving season, we’re asking you to help get twenty homeless job-seekers to their first interview.
Support Solutions helps newly homeless people find and keep jobs. In Los Angeles a staggering number of families and individuals can't afford the rent and are living in abandoned buildings, motels, churches, and encampments. Over a third of LA County's homeless population lives in vehicles. These "hidden homeless" struggle to survive until they lose what shelter they have and are forced to live on the street.
OUR SOLUTION for homeless men and women who want to work is this: “You’re Hired,” a one-on-one program that’s accessible and builds confidence and skills.
We locate homeless job-seekers and custom fit an employment program to each person's challenges and needs. Insightful, compassionate volunteers mentor individuals through the process of (re)discovering their skill sets and writing resumes that market their talents. We provide interview clothes, haircuts, and transportation support while they search for jobs… and finally: their first interview!
Guiding people along the path to self-sufficiency means restoring their confidence, showing them that they and their skills are valuable, and in some cases teaching them new skills (forklift, typing, CPR, and more!) Over half the people we’ve helped gain employment are no longer homeless – in less than one year.
David was once sleeping in a park and unsure how to re-enter the working world. Our volunteers helped him regain his confidence and employment. $50 will help others like David get his ID, a gas card, forklift training – and a new life. Watch him share his story here: David's Story
