Help one of our Protectors..

Caldwell County Deputy Jay Johnson was injured when he (alone) was dispatched and went to a home on Hidden Oak Road around midnight on Friday, Feb. 2. Authorities say someone started firing at and struck Deputy Johnson. Deputy Johnson was flown to the hospital where he immediately underwent the first round of surgeries. During this incident, Deputy Johnson  had a bullet graze his forehead,  his left arm has a through and through gunshot wound that left a fist size hole in his arm/shoulder and a fractured humerus, his right wrist had a through and through gunshot wound shattering his radial bone and damaging major nerves and arteries supplying blood and nerves giving sensation to his fingers. The gunshot through his wrist hit him in the chest plate causing a skin abrasion and bruising to his chest. This will be a lenghty recovery, requiring multiple surgeries and therapies after each one. There are no guarantees the Deputy Johnson will be able to return to service since the affected wrist is his dominant one. While jay's arms are immobile, his wife, Elizabeth, will be assisting with Jay's daily living needs including eating, hygiene, balance etc. as best she can due to work obligations. Deputy Johnson grew up in Tomball, Texas, raised by a single father who passed away in 2014. He served for 4 years in the Army as a UAV operator and had  1 tour in Afghanistan. Jay met the love of his life, Elizabeth, in high school, have been together for 11 years and have been married for 7 years in March.  She has been by his side since the first evening, however her FMLA is running out and she will be unable to continue staying with Jay as often as she has. While Jay's arms are immobile, Elizabeth will be assisting with his daily living needs including; eating, hygiene, balance etc.  as best she can due to work obligations.   This will be a lenghty recovery, requiring multiple surgeries and therapies after each one.   Deputy Johnson is currently employed with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.  He will be receiving 70% of his pay (which is far below the area average due to the low tax base).   Let's each step up and do all we can for this young man who put himself in harms way to protect people and property.  Any amount makes a difference and please share far and wide so that collectively we can give this HERO the help he deserves..
