YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR ZPD K9 JELKA! 
Zionsville Police Department K9 dog, Jelka is recovering from multiple major surgeries after being struck by a vehicle last week.

Jelka suffered  a compound fracture in her left hind leg and a hole in her abdomen that pushed her organs forward, making it hard to breathe. Jelka was rushed to MedVet Indianapolis for a two-hour surgery.


While Jelka did survive, she will return to the veterinary hospital this week for extensive surgery to hopefully save her left rear leg .

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jelka. Our main concern is her health and quality of life,” said ZPD Chief Knox.


Doctors said Jelka is doing really well considering all that she has gone through. Not out of the woods yet, but was able to come home for a short recuperation.  She has done well over the weekend.

As you might imagine, the medical costs for Jelka are substantial and the  Zionsville Police Department's K9 budget  has been sorely depleted due to Jelka's emergency surgery costs as well as treatment for Eso, the ZPD's other K9 officer.

Here's where your help is truly needed with a donation to the Friends of Jelka fund. Any amount will be very appreciated and will go towards paying the medical costs of surgery and rehabilitation for this amazingly strong and intelligent K9 officer.

We will keep you updated on Jelka's recovery as well as announce other fund-raising initiatives in the Zionsville area to help with the cost of her surgeries. 


Wednesday, May 24th Update -  Jelka is doing much better after her surgery today on the multiple fractures of her left rear hind leg. The attending veterinarians report that surgery went very well, Jelka is recuperating nicely and hopes are good for a positive outcome.
