The Freidt-Shelton -Flemmonds-Davis Memorial Tree Fund

In an effort to keep our parks beautiful, the Speedway Parks & Recreation Department continues to plant new trees to reforest our wonderful parks.  Last year, they launched a program to help fund the effort in a unique way: The Tribute Tree Program.

For $250, a tree will be planted with a personalized plaque inscribed as indicated by the donor to honor & memorialize loved ones. Trees ordered in the Spring/Summer of 2018 will be planted in Autumn of 2018.

Autumn of 2018 will unfortunately mark 40 years since Jayne Friedt, Ruth Ellen Shelton, Mark Flemmonds, and Daniel Davis were taken away from our community, and more importantly, their loved ones. I would love for them to be immortalized in our parks, to be remembered for who they were, and not what happened. They should never be forgotten.

My goal is to raise $1,000.

A tree for Jayne.

A tree for Ruth.

A tree for Mark.

A tree for Daniel.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Alex Wisemiller

REMINDER:
This Saturday, November 10th at 12pm, we will hold a small dedication ceremony for the trees & bench at Leonard Park in Speedway, IN. The event is open to everyone, but out of respect for the families, I am asking the news media to please not visit the site until after the ceremony is over. I appreciate their cooperation and understanding. The approximate address of Leonard Park is 5412 W. 15th Street. Parking is free along that street with additional parking available east of the playground and tennis courts. The site of the Memorial Trees is just south of the playground. Again, I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for helping to make this idea a reality. Because of your generosity, Ruth, Jayne, Mark, and Daniel will be remembered forever for who they were, and how they still make an impact on all of us today.

Update!
8/9/2018
Hello, everyone! I want to update all of you on the memorial trees and the fundraiser itself. First off, I cannot possibly thank you all enough for all your support. Your kindness and generosity has truly touched my heart the last few weeks, and it will never be taken for granted.
As details are still being finalized with the Speedway Parks Department, I wanted to let you know that the last day to make donations on this Go Fund Me page will be Sunday, August 12th, 2018. If anyone would like to donate after that date, a donation can be made directly to the Speedway Arts Council. Please contact me directly at alexww1988@gmail.com if you are wanting to do so. Further donations made will help the Parks Dept maintain the trees throughout the year, as well as other beautification efforts in that area.

Please continue to follow the Speedway Arts Council, The Speedway Wiseguy, and this Go Fund Me page, as updates and details will be announced as they come.

Hello, everyone! I hope all of you are having a great week. The Speedway Art Council posted an update on their Facebook page. Which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/213859131978201/posts/1959303037433793/

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Speedway Arts Advisory Council, in collaboration with Speedway Parks & Recreation, is proud to announce the joint effort to beautify Speedway parks while honoring the memory of local residents lost almost 40 years ago in November of 1978. Speedway Arts Advisory Council member Alex W. Wisemiller has spearheaded the effort with a Go Fund Me page, raising $1,435 thanks to the overwhelming support of the community. In addition to the Go Fund Me donations from the public, the Speedway Lions Club donated an additional $500 to see the project through. Five trees will be planted in a Speedway park utilizing the Parks & Recreation beautification program. Four trees will individually honor Ruth Shelton, Jayne Friedt, Mark Flemmonds, and Daniel Davis. A fifth tree will be dedicated to their families & friends to honor their strength and resilience. Wisemiller, the Speedway Arts Advisory Council, and the Speedway Parks & Recreation Department will have a dedication ceremony in November. Please follow our Facebook page for more information and updates as details are being finalized.”
