We are here to help raise money to provide reusable menstruation cups to 1,000 homeless women here in the Los Angeles area.
This year I was asked to come up with a community project and while I was thinking of what I wanted to do I remembered this video I saw about this homeless woman and the struggles she faced while having to take care of herself while on her period and being unable to afford tampons or pads. This was something that never even dawned on me that could be a problem for homeless women, and from the people I've spoken with about this project, it's something not many people have ever thought about. Aren't we lucky!
These women often times have to use trash or have to spend time close to a public restroom to make sure they can clean themselves and use toilet paper in place of sanitary products. This can restrict her daily freedoms and can also add even more stress to her already stressful life. A woman should not have to choose to buy tampons over food.
What we are aiming to do is provide these women with reusable menstruation cups. Just like their name says, these cups are reusable. This is something that she can keep with her month after month that will give her her freedom back! They're also great for the environment!
We are working with women's shelters around the city so that they can share these cups with their clients.
