Franz Elic Grossmann competed at a Mountainbike Downhill Race in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Unfortunately he had a  very bad crash on sunday - 30 th april.

Franz suffered a bad brain injury which resulted in a coma for several weeks. After he was transported from Mexico to Austria (his foreign insurance didn´t pay for the hospital stay in Mexico or the transport by airplane back to Europe) he spent round about 2 months in a intensive care station of a special clinic in Austria.

Now he is in special clinic for rehab. How long his rehab is going to take is uncertain.

I started this GoFundMe Page to support Franz and his family to cover the hospital costs (in Mexico) and the transport back home.

Please also send him your best wishes via Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/grossmann.f

Thank you very much. As soon as there are any updates about his health we will post it here.

The last months and weeks were turbulent with a lot of ups and downs. So it´s really difficult to post regular updates.
The healing process of this kind of injuries is not constant. One week is very positive, the following can be two steps back. So I never know when it´s the best timing to post an update.

So i try to give you a summary update of the last months:
Franz was transported from Mexico to Austria in mid of may to a special clinic for brain injuries. This complicated transport by special medical airplanes was organised by his father because the foreign insurance of Franz was not willing to pay or organise. But it was very important to bring him as fast as possible to a special clinic in Austria.
At this time Franz was still in coma. After the first 3 weeks in Austria he was starting to wake up step by step. He also had several surgerys.
After round about 2 months at the intensive care station of the special clinic in Austria, he was stable enough to start his rehab in another clinic in Germany.

How long this rehab is going to take is uncertain. A brain injury is not like a broken bone which is healt after 8 weeks. Franz injury takes a lot time to heal. He is a warrior and doing his very best at the rehab.

Since Franz is back in Europe his family and his closest friends are by his side. He is never alone.

Please understand that it´s really hard to post regular updates. Every week and days can be totally different. So it´s really hard to find the right time to post an update.

THANK YOU so much for your support during the last months!!!

Update from his girlfriend Nina:
Franzi is in stable state after his emergency surgery on May 3rd.
He is still in a coma but the pressure in his brain is normal and the doctors are happy with the outcome.

Franzi is so strong that the doctors have decided to reduce the sedation to wake him up step by step.

I also got a wonderful message that he has reacted to all our voices and even squeezed the hand of his father and brother back.

Even though this is just a small step of a long journey - we are overpowered with happiness.

Again, WE want to THANK YOU all for the overwhelming support from you! This not only helps Franz but also all of us to see this through! THANK YOU!

Unfortunately he had a brain hemorrhage which has caused the pressure in his brain to rise. Tonight ( 1 AM in Mexico) he had an emergency surgery.

I just got an update from his brother Mike, who is together with his father on site, that the operation went well and that the doctors are satisfied with the results. Franz has the best doctors available that are doing an amazing job and everything they can to help him.

He is still in an artificial coma and will be under close surveillance. Franz will probably spend more weeks in the hospital in Puerto Vallarta.

WE ( his family & close friends) are overpowered by your outstanding support. The positive feedback, sharing and donating has helped so much that we are speechless. We believe that all the positive vibes have helped him and give him the strength to keep fighting.

Hard to believe....sorry...Austria has socalized medicine and as Franz went to Mexico he surely needed to proof having medical coverage for the time of his stay. So any cost of his treatment IS covered...even being airlifted home once stable...so quite honestly...it is beyond me.. Why you are asking for donations!

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. ― Rocky Balboa
