This is my nephew, Frankie! He is 6 years old and the coolest little dude around. Frankie was born with epilepsy. When he was 16 months old, he had three brain surgeries to remove the part of his brain responsible for his seizures. He was seizure free for 2.5 years after the first surgery, but then started having seizures here and there.

Like any six year old boy- Frankie and his brain hit a growth spurt! Unfortunately, with that brain growth, another part of Frankie's brain decided to misbehave. He started to have multiple seizures a day (some days hitting 20+).

Last week Frankie went into the hospital. After multiple tests, new medications, and maxing out on his old meds- my sister and her family had to make a difficult decision.

Based on imaging and the EEG data that was collected, the doctors are very confident that they need to remove a bit more tissue close to where the prior surgery was done.

It was a scary and difficult decision for my sister and her family to accept, but once again they are putting on their capes and showing just how couragous they really are.

Frankie will be going into surgery within a couple weeks. Before this started happening again-my sister, Kate, started her new job in a pediatric long term care for medically fragile children, to help other little superheros like Frankie. She hasn't worked there long enough to receive paid time off, and will continue to be out of work and by Frankie's side for at least another month. Frankie's dad, Frank will be taking FMLA during this time, as well so they can all assemble to fight this battle together.

Between hospital bills, medication, and time out of work I am respectfully asking for your help. Not only is Frankie brave, positive, and happy- but he has two amazing parents by his side.

My family appreciates all the kind words, gifts, visits, prayers, and positive thoughts that have already been sent to Frankie.

Thank you in advance for your donation. My nephew is truly amazing and I have no doubt that this little superhero will conquer his battles once again!

We cannot believe the love and support our little guy has received. Although the past 1-2 weeks since coming home from the hospital have been rough and a constant battle with seizures, medications, side effects, and frustration, knowing the incredible amount of support we have makes each day a bit easier. Frankie had a rough day yesterday with one of the pre-surgical tests/procedures, but he is back to being crazy and happy at home. We are scheduled to go in for surgery on Tuesday, at which time they will be placing the grids and strips, which are covered in many tiny electrodes, directly onto Frankie's brain to determine the exact area responsible for the seizures. These grids will then be attached to a monitoring unit for a few days. Once they feel that they have enough data and confidence of where they need to go, they will then remove the piece of brain causing the problem. This second surgery is tentatively scheduled for next Friday. Our team of doctors and surgeons have expressed that they are already quite sure of where the issue is, and are hopeful for a successful resection. Your continued love and prayers are so greatly appreciated. We will keep you posted throughout this next stage of the process -Kate

So we came home from the hospital yesterday to give Frankie a break for a few days. Our goal was a week. Unfortunately it does not seem like we will make it to a week. Frankie had a rough day of seizures today, at this point there have been 25+. Our plan right now is to let him have one more night at home, and decide in the morning what to do. Most likely, we will be heading back to the hospital this weekend and turning to surgery sooner rather than later. Frankie continues to conquer this with a huge smile on his face, and a loving hug at every turn. We are so grateful for and humbled by all of the support and love from everyone.
