Brian Hays  TUCSON, AZ

My dad Frank Hays had a heart attack and passed away unexpectedly last Friday.  He has a brother, Herb Hays, who lives with several disabilities. Herb is an exceptional person who requires some extra care and isn't able to have normal employment. Frank helped support Herb financially. Now that Frank has passed away, Herb is losing a brother and also a significant part of his financial support. It would be a deeply meaningful gift to my father to make a donation to help support Herb. The funds will be maintained in a special account that is already set up to help Herb with his expenses. Thank you so much.

Thank you again to everyone who donated to my dad's memorial fund and who came to the funeral yesterday. It was a beautiful day in Tucson and a beautiful service. I know my dad would have been pleased. We are all still trying to make sense of the sudden loss. I guess things will never be quite the same. One thing I do know is that the love and generosity shown by everyone has lifted our family. We are humbled and grateful for the generosity and support. Thank you.

After only a day and a half you all exceeded the $5,000 goal I set for my dad's memorial fund. Thank you. My motive was to make something good out of this and to help my Uncle Herb. I didn't realize I'd also benefit so much from the simple generosity and goodwill. It has lifted our family.

Brian, Matt and Sarah, my deepest sympathies for the loss of your father Frank, he was a great human being and I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I met Frank when I moved to Grand Canyon in 1998. I was new to the NPS and was tasked with starting an environmental education program; I sought out Frank's advice and guidance on how to go about building a program from scratch, as he had so successfully done with the vegetation program. He freely shared his experience, knowledge and kindness and with his help we developed some great programs which are still in place. Frank was a mentor and a friend and I was fortunate, and honored, to have seen him in December when he showed up at my retirement party. We had a great chat, I just never imagined it would be our last. Frank was a great person who made a difference on this planet, he truly left it better than when he arrived. Rest in Peace Frank.
