Who I am ~

Hello!

My name is Frances Clark (Effy WP on Facebook for privacy reasons). I am a 26 year old trans woman from Melbourne, Australia, and I am at a stage in my life in which I desperately desire a gender affirming surgery on my face.

Gender affirming surgeries refer to surgical procedures undertaken by transgender people in order to feel more at home in their bodies. As such, there are many different types of gender affirming surgeries.

Gender affirming surgeries can be, and are, literally life-saving for many trans people. But because they are so expensive, many struggle to afford these costs, even whilst earning (myself included).

The surgery itself ~

The surgery I would like is called Forehead Recontouring. This form of surgery shaves back the brow bone. When someone is exposed to testosterone, it can create a protrusive browbone as it did in my case. Forehead recontouring is one of the (Facial Feminisation Surgeries (FFS) that trans women can choose to undergo. However, it is not cheap. 

In the last 6 months I underwent genital reconstruction surgery, also known as SRS (Sexual Reassignment Surgery), thanks to crowdfunding efforts from friends, loved ones, family and kind supporters. I wanted to be able to pay for this current surgery on my own, but even while employed it will take a long time to save the amount I need for it. 

Gender dysphoria is a daily struggle. I am extremely self-conscious to the point I wear a hat each time I leave the house so as to cover my forehead and actually have some difficulty leaving the house often. I don't have to wait any longer than I need to for this operation. 

It goes without saying that undergoing this form of FFS would vastly improve my mental health. These gender affirmation surgeries are about feeling comfortable in your body, they're about recognizing yourself in the mirror, and they're about feeling like living. They're about leaving ones house not being something to dread.
