LOGLINE

'Forked Road' is the story of a teen girl entering young womanhood, from an excessively traumatic home life. Through everything, she chooses to remain on a positive path as an adult. However, her naiveté often blocks her journey by the decisions she makes and the people she unwittingly trusts.

SYNOPSIS
Sadrine literally has few she can count on. A series of events serve as Sadrine’s coming of age, as she fumbles through situations with her distorted life view. She manages to show her gentleness, trust, sense of adventure and resilience; but, she also shows her inability to raise her voice and naiveté when it comes to the real world.

The story follows the determination of a teen entering womanhood. Despite the sometimes painful path that her life takes, she remains persistent in her struggle to turn towards a positive road in her life moving forward.

MISSION
It started as an autobiography which I began writing several years ago. I came to the conclusion that I could reach a wider audience and help more people using a visual format. The short story ‘'The Coat’ brushes the surface of what being physically and mentally abused by those who are supposed to have the utmost care for a child's welfare and being bullied by their peers has on their adult life.

SUSTAINABILITY
The story is sufficiently complex on all levels of conflict, which will be intriguing to an audience. There are many themes that are relatable to a wide demographic: trauma, low self-esteem, colorism, mother/daughter relationship, child abuse, compliance, abuse of power, sexual assault, suicide.

Although the pilot episode of 'Forked Road' can stand alone as a short film, the  ultimate goal is to turn it into an eight season web-series, which will cover Sadrine's journey over a 30 year span, from 1979 - 2009. Each episode will cover Sadrine's life as an adult, but will have a flashback to Sadrine’s childhood and teenage years.

MY PURPOSE
Many people across the globe have gone through similar or worse childhoods, teen years, and even their adult lives. Some choose to “pay back the world” by having no empathy or compassion for others, sometimes reverting to a life of abuses of themselves and/or others, even to the point of ending a life - whether it be another life or their own. Even more tragic, some never even make it to adulthood, because they feel completely lost and alone and feel their life will never get better.

I’m looking forward to turning my autobiography into a web-series, for the purpose of helping as many people as possible realize their worth and potential, and for them not to let negative people and experiences from their past reflect on how they move forward with their lives.

The webseries will show that although the past may be filled with the worst possible situations and memories, their choices could lead to a much brighter future that they could have never imagined; hence, the title, ‘'Forked Road’ - which path will they take?

FUNDING
The funds would be used to produce the pilot episode of  ‘Forked Road' - crew, locations, insurance, permits, equipment rentals, wardrobe, props, craft service, post production, etc.  We hope to have the funds to start production on the four-day shoot no later than the second week of July 2019.

I hope to  share the pilot with as many pre-teens, teens, and parents, to make them rethink some of the choices they make. The ending is intentionally left open-ended so viewers will wonder what else happened after the fade out, and how did things turn around for the better. There is an outline for six seasons. Hopefully, after reaching many people, the story can be expanded to a web-series to answer those questions and help even more people. There are many experiences to tell that many will relate to.

CAST

TEKA MOON as SADRINE
Quiet, insecure and socially inept, due to a childhood of being bullied, and emotional and physical abuse from family and peers. Extremely uncomfortable with the attention she receives from men.

CHARLIE GASTON as FRAN
Sadrine's mother. Sharp-tongued and insecure, due to her lack of a formal education. She thinks she only has her looks to offer anyone. 'Carmen Jones' meets 'Mommie Dearest'.

GIL JACKSON as T.J.
Tall and handsome, with a gregarious personality and great sense of humor. He is liked by everyone. Gets extremely close to Sadrine and opens up another part of her personality.

LAUREN SHAYE as LAILA
Sadrine's co-worker and friend. Funny and curious. Wiser than her years. Feels sorry for Sadrine and is always trying to set her up with a man to take care of her.

CAMMIE MIDDLETON as MRS. JONES
T.J.'s mother. Homemaker and great caregiver. Mildly curious about the "odd" young woman that T.J. is involved with.

MARIEL SUAREZ as TAMMY
T.J.'s younger sister. Polite to Sadrine - as she is to all of the ladies that like him. But tries to stay out of his dating life.
