Michael Fellis, 19-year-old victim of suicide

Michael Fellis, a student at California State University, Chico, was kind-hearted, ambitious, and deeply loved by his friends and family. A major in computer programming, his humility and soft-spoken nature often belied his razor-sharp intelligence. And although technology commandeered his academic and professional interests, Michael also carried a fierce passion for art—you should’ve seen the doodles in his notebook! Beyond that, Michael was incredibly polite and caring: please and thank you were staples in his vocabulary; he never let a kind gesture, like holding open the door, pass him by; and he was always ready to lend his ear to anyone who needed it.

Early this morning, our family lost Michael to suicide. We are deeply saddened by his loss. His warm smile, wit, and playful demeanor masked the pain brewing beneath the surface. Despite a difficult upbringing in an underprivileged household, he was the first in his family to go to college—an amazing feat but tough transition. His death comes as a shock to us all.

Although no longer with us, Michael will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Jeanette, and younger brother, Joseph. This GoFundMe, started and maintained by Michael's aunt, Elizabeth,  will be used to cover the funeral expenses. Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Your contribution means so much to our family.
