For Katherine (F*** Cancer!)

It is hard to know what to write here because I wish this was not happening to my sister Katherine. But while wishes, prayers, positive thoughts and love are all welcome and appreciated, they do not alleviate the financial burden and stress of managing a serious illness. If you or anyone you know has gone through a major illness you know that it is life altering in many ways for the person who is experiencing it and also for their family. On top of managing the emotional and physical side of such an illness it is very difficult to manage the financial end of things.
This is why I have decided to set up this Go-Fund-Me for Katherine.
Katherine was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and has gone through the first stage of what will be months of treatments and hospital visits. Her surgery took place on July 20th successfully and "according to plan" (the surgeons words) - always nice when there are few or no surprises! Since then she has been resting at home, still trying to stay as involved in "normal" life as possible while trying to heal without any (more) glitches (there were a few recently including an infection).
Once the surgery site is healed she can move on to the next phase which is chemotherapy. Much of the next stage of her treatment is determined by the pathology which she has been told is Stage 3, and so we know her treatment will take the better part of a year starting in early September.
A year is along time to go through chemotherapy.
A year is a long time to go without an income.
I know that Katherine will come through this with her usual bravery, matter-of-fact attitude, and her special sense of humour along with the love and support of her friends and family. However, it would be a lot easier to do that without the added stress of wondering how to pay for everything while she is unable to work. Katherine has always worked very hard as a single mother of two great kids who are both attending post secondary school in Victoria this September.
