Hi, everyone. My name is Jessica Whisenant and I live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. My family and I have lived down in here for about six years now in various rental houses. After years of saving, and in her final year of college to finally become a nurse, my mother bought a house. She used to paint for a living so she took meticulous effort in painting the house and decorating it a beautiful coastal theme like she had always wanted to. Unknown to her, due to the current flood maps in the area, the house was not listed in a flooding area and the previous owner did not disclose that the house had flooded two years prior from hurricane Matthew. My mom, unfortunately, does not have flooding insurance. Despite our best efforts in preparing for hurricane Florence, using anything and everything we could get our hands on from sandbags to plastic and even flex seal, it was worse than we could have ever imagined. We didn't find out until later just how bad our house was flooded by seeing it on a news channel with people in boats and drones taking pictures and videos.  We've lost almost everything that my mother had worked so hard to get. We put what we could in storage, what we valued upstairs, and the rest up on cinderblocks. Unfortunately, we lost most of my mother's clothing, what we couldn't pack of my little sister's (a nine and ten year old) clothing, their beds and dressers, and almost all of my brother's belongings. My mother has broken down so many times within the past week. It's unbearable to sit idly by and watch as someone you love is losing everything they worked so hard to earn. My family has never been in this type of situation. Due to our pets, schooling, and costs my family has been divided. One of our cats is in boarding, the other with my older sister at a friend's house because he is too anxious and will rip out his fur if he's away from her, my brother is at a friend's house almost an hour away because he attends an academy and the bus won't be able to pick him up, my two sisters and mother are in a small two bedroom temporary home that our church thankfully is renting to them, and I am a caregiver so I spend most of the week staying with my clients. We're all working hard to try and pitch in and help but with bills, boarding our animals, and replacing clothes and personal items, and schooling it has taken a heavy toll on our family.  My mom had to drop her two heavy lab classes, which she will have to pay for out of pocket to retake because the stress was too much for her and she didn't want to affect her good GPA. I started this because I, as well as my mother and family, are at an extremely low point in our lives. I know there are good people out there who are willing to pick others up when they are down and can't help themselves. I've never made one of these before and I don't know what to expect from everyone, I've always been anxious and nervous about these types of things, so I asked my friend's for advice on what to set the limit as. I don't want anyone to think that I expect that much. I'll be happy if I even make $100 and I'll honestly cry at seeing even the smallest of donations. And I'm sure my mom will too. If you have any clothing or toys you'd like to donate for my little sisters, any questions or concerns, or help-  please contact me via e-mail at jessicawhisenant1@gmail.com    I and my family are thankfully for anyone who shares or, if able to, donate. It means a lot to us that strangers are willing to pick others up at their low point and help them out in times of need. Everything that we make off of this will go towards the repairs of our house, the food & clothes we lost, and refurnishing. Thank you all.  Sincerely,  Jessica Whisenant
