Shelter For One, Shelter For All

Donation protected

My name is Chanda Davis and i'm the mother of four. Recently I lost my apartment due to back rent from being in a program called "rapid rehousing" from a previous shelter experiance. The program is designed to only last for a certain amount of time and ends either from non compliance or employment. After some time of being employeed by Giant the program proceeded to terminate me, leaving me to pay market rent of 1,340. I simply could not afford that amount nor were the conditions of the home worth it. To avoid an eviction and the company presuing me for any of the back rent owed, I took a deal where me and my family would have to move out with no-way to afford another unit since the regulations on income requirements make it 10 times harder when your low income. This turn in event's officially made us homeless again.
I tried applying for units with no return results. I also called programs for assistence all in which were always out of funds. I tried to save our place in many ways, but was told even if I agreed on a payment plan I would be responsible for back rent along with forward rent,  so we settled and left hoping on the day of the shelter hotline would be our savior, which was also a dead end.
I sought out shelter through several non profit organizations and in turn was told shelter was not garanteed and that contacting any and everyone who could possibly take us in was the method we would use, which lead to my inlaw saying yes. As a last resort we agreed on moving to North Carolina with my kids grandmother.
The childrens schools fought to keep us around, paying for hotels on our behalf and begging the organization on to do something to no avail. Me and my family stayed two nights off our own cash hoping something would happen until the money ran dry, so we had no choice but to abort DC. Which was heartbreaking to us all.
I left my job because I had no choice. It was leave or be homeless and working while my family had nowhere to go was an unbearable thought. I was afraid CPS would be called eventually if I stayed living hotel to hotel so we accepted the offer and left. Within North Carolina my inlaw put us out, asking us to leave after a simple altercation leaving us yet again homeless in a small retirement town. Everything that has happenened was out of my control and I am honestly just trying to make sure my kids are out of the cold. We've have no where to go and I dont believe anyone has room for a family so large, so I'm out of options and go fund me seemed like a shot. At least doing something even if you fail, you can always say you tried and that what this is for.
