Fitchburg Explosion Fund
Nine homes have been deemed unihabitable by the Fitchburg Inspection Department, with a total of 25 homes impacted to some degree.
Families will be able to use these funds until insurance kicks in, to pay for immediate needs, to cover deductables, and any uninsured related costs.
This fund has been set up by Fitchburg Alder Dorothy Krause. It is not a function of the city, but will be administered appropriately with 100% of the funds going to help impacted residents of the area.
Any funds remaining after the local needs are met will be forwarded to the Red Cross to continue their work helping families in need.
Thank you so much, especially to Lindy and Larry for the bulk of the food and cooking, but also to all the other folks that helped make the Pig Roast such a success. This is clearly a community that cares!

While we are still waiting for the official result of the investigation, so we will have a firmer sense of what out-of-pocket cost people have or will incur, we’ve been letting the funds collected so far rest in the account. There is a total of over $5,600 at this point.
Rumor and speculation aside, media has reported that the homeowner’s attorney has filed suit against parties involved in the installation of a gas dryer. No idea how long that will be tied up in court, or what the result might be. Hopefully there will be people at the picnic that might have educated guesses, since I presume it will be on people’s minds.
My big question is whether people’s insurance deductibles will be covered (estimated at $1,000 each) or if the fund should attempt to cover those as much as possible. To be fair we need to know that answer before we release funds.
For the families that were impacted, we’ll have request forms available, so they can let us know what their impact is at this point. Some have been very open in sharing stories of how it impacted them, physically, emotionally, and financially. I’ll be interested in hearing how they are doing at this point in time.
And for attendee’s there will be grateful thanks for your support of the families, past present and future. Hopefully we’ll also be able to thank, again, many of the emergency personnel that helped out as well. Gratitude also for those that have already contributed in one way or another!
Direct deposits can be made at Summit on Fish Hatchery as well. Just reference the explosion account.
The neighbors have been planning a gathering/fundraiser. Here is most of what I know about it... which is... not much:
