Fireman Tim’s Brain Cancer Fund.

Tim Ridenour is a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1978, US Navy Veteran, and Retired Greenville Firefighter.  In September 2013, Tim began to experience an excruciating headache.  A trip to the ER and CAT scan showed a golf ball sized tumor which was removed and diagnosed as a Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) brain tumor.  (Unfortunately, this is not a solid tumor, and cannot be completely removed.)  The remaining tumor was initially treated with radiation, chemo and prayer. In October of 2014, a second surgery was performed to remove scar tissue and fluid buildup. A shunt was surgically implanted in December of 2014 to reduce a postprocedural pseudomeningocele.  Tim continues to undergo chemo and is now using the Novo TTF to keep the cancer from growing and kill any remaining cancer cells. This treatment is a commitment, being worn 24/7 and turned on a minimum of 18 hours per day (for the treatment to be effective).  MaryAnn, his wife of 32 years, is his full time caregiver now and does not work outside of the home.  Medical bills continue to mount, and along with unexpected expenses, they are having a difficult time making ends meet.

For example: after returning home from his initial chemo and radiation treatment (November 2013-December 2013), which was done at OSU’s James Cancer Center, they discovered their chimney had cracked from the ice and snow, and was leaking through the roof.  It has been covered with a tarp since they cannot afford to repair it.  Last week, their 35-year old furnace gave out and they had to have it replaced.

A little about Tim: Tim is a compassionate and caring person, always there when one is in need.   He has served and protected his country and community for over 30 years without hesitation (4 years as a Volunteer Firefighter in Casstown, 6 years in the US Navy, and 20 years as a Greenville Firefighter) He was awarded the GOFSEA Fire Safety Award 1999, and was an Official Stitcher on the National 9/11 Flag, which is one of the largest American flags to fly above the wreckage at Ground Zero. (Now completed and will be housed at the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York). These are just a few of his accomplishments.

Tim has always been the one helping others, and as you can probably guess, he is very reluctant to ask others for help.  He loved firefighting, saying it was more of a calling than a career. This is also where the further reaching firefighting brotherhood comes in.  Please consider donating to this fund. If you can't donate, please share this link with friends, family and fellow firefighters and fire departments in your area.  Let’s show Tim that heroes support heroes in their fight and they don’t fight alone. Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless.

Tim had a brain bleed/stroke on April 4th, now our lives are filled with physical therapy, speech therapy, and about ten new doctors. The stroke effected his swallowing, speech and the left side, so we have a wheelchair and walker as well. But at least he is back home. The challenges and expenses continue to mount but we have each other and our faith. Thank you to all who have helped and continue to help us. Most recent MRI shows tumor progression near brain stem, so doctors are looking for options for dealing with this new information. Please keep Tim in your prayers.

Tim continues to be on the Novo TTF (Tumor Targeting Field) and on what is called dose intensive chemo-one week on and one week off. They are also attacking it with prayer, meditation, prayer, exercise, prayer, healthy eating, positive thoughts and more prayer. All of this is helping. His last MRI showed that one part of the tumor was stable and the other part had actually shrunk. Please continue to pray for Tim and his family. Thank you to all who have donated. It is greatly appreciated.
