Firefighters in need
Donation protected

On Tuesday, June 24, 2018 at approximately 2:30 am; Hanover Volunteer Firefighters Kenneth Holbert II and John Greene were responding in Engine 3513 to a reported traffic accident in the area of Old Pueblo Road and Birdsall Road. As they were traveling south on Old Pueblo Road they saw what was believed to be just debris in the in road caused by the rain from the night before. They continued at a slower speed towards the area of the call when the fire engine drove into a 20-foot sink hole that was not visible due to no street lights on the rural El Paso County road. The sink hole was caused by a failure of a drainage culvert due to the large amount of rain received in the area. When the engine entered the sink hole firefighter Holbert was ejected out of the firetruck breaking his pelvis which has required multiple surgeries to repair. Firefighter Greene remained in the firetruck but suffered a broken nose, facial fractures and has 5 compression fractures in his spine. Both firefighters are in good spirits as they are on an extensive healing process and will be out of work for a quite a while. We are asking for donation to assist with medical expenses not covered by insurance and any other financial assistance these two gentlemen may need until they are able to return to work. All money raised will be split evenly between the two firefighters.
