Displaced families from 5alarm Fire
Donation protected
On the evening of June 24th, 2017, at about 9pm, a 5-alarm fire broke out at a Farmers Market on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, Queens. It took about four hours and about 200 firefighters to finally put out the flames, 11 of which were injured in the process.
The fire grew very quickly spreading to the apartments above the market. Two families, the Habib family and the Vasile family lived in the apartment upstairs. The Habib family has two young daughters and the Vasile family has one son and one daughter. All the children are under the age of 10. Luckily, everyone in the apartments were able to escape safely, however, everything else was destroyed.
The families have been displaced from their homes and lost all valuables including furniture, appliances, clothing, things from child that were all lost in the fire.
The Albanian American Islamic Center of Queens (AAIC) owns the property affected. The residential tenants did not have renters insurance and have no immediate access to relief. The AAIC would like to raise money to assist their families in recovery. We pray for their families and hope they can recover as soon as possible.
All the proceeds from this campaign will go towards both the Habib family and Vasile family. We would like to help make this situation easier by having the community help out.
We appreciate any help we can get with this campaign. We set the goal at $12,000 and are hoping to support each other and make a difference in the lives of people who could really use some help at the moment.
