Finn's fundraiser for Firstlight

As you know, my beautiful baby boy Finn passed away suddenly in January of this year. At only 5 months old, Finn had just began to develop his own little personality, he was such a loving little boy and had a smile to light up a room. Although we did not get to keep Finn with us for very long, the joy he brought and the impact Finn had on not only myself but on all of my family and friends will be everlasting. He gave us the gift of perspective and a new appreciation for how short life is and how important it is to make the most of it.

In saying that, the last couple of months for me have been very difficult, I struggle to accept this new life of mine, a life that my little boy isn't physically a part of, even though he will always be in my heart. When Finn passed, my heart broke into a million pieces. I was in complete and utter shock, I couldn't accept or get my head around the fact that my baby had died, I still can't. The days have been long and dark, even throughout Ireland's first summer in its history. It is hard to appreciate how lucky I am to have had the wonderful experience of being a Mammy to an amazing little boy through the pain of missing him and yearning to hold him once more.

In the months since I lost Finn, a charity called Firstlight have been there to provide me with supports I need to get through the darkest of days. They have helped me connect with experienced bereavement counsellors and are just a phone call away if I ever need to have a chat. They help bereaved parents to connect around the country, which is a huge help to speak to others who understand the pain and the loss that you are feeling. They also hold memorial events around the country so bereaved parents have the opportunity to celebrate the life of their child. I have attached a link to Firstlight's website if you would like to understand more about the supports that are available, all free of charge.

As next weekend, August 11th, will be Finn's first birthday I have organised a fundraising event to raise some money for Firstlight and to make the first steps in starting to build Finn's legacy. I will be having a bake sale in Maghery on Saturday 11th, from 12-3pm, selling all sorts of yummy baked goods. I would love to see as many of you there as possible, but if you can't make it, I would appreciate if you would sponsor me the cost of a cupcake :) Every donation is very much appreciated! The funds will go towards helping other bereaved parents through the loss of an infant or child, a very worthy cause.

Thank you so much for reading this and thank you in advance for your support and being a part of Finn's legacy! :)
